The botanical name of Black gram is Vigna Mungo and belongs to the family of Fabaceae. It is originated in India where it has been in cultivation from ancient times and is one of the most highly prized pulses of India.
When the skin is removed of black gram split, it is called white urad dal split. These lentils are creamy off white in colour. They are not as strong as black split and have milder flavor. It is rich in proteins and amazingly nutritious. Consuming Urad dal regularly will maintain bone health.
